Server - ANSWER-one of the three major components of a network. It is a device

Circuit - ANSWER-one of the three major components of a network. It is a
pathway or connection between client and server. Copper wire, fiber optic cable,
wireless
Router - ANSWER-A device that sends packets of data between different
networks. It is connected to at least two networks, commonly two LANs or WANs.
It is located at gateways (the places where two or more networks connect)
Switch - ANSWER-A device that connects multiple computers together within a
LAN (local area network). After the first data transfer, it creates a "switch table"
which matches ports to connected devices by their MAC addresses. The major
purpose of this is to create a LAN
P2P (peer-to-peer) - ANSWER-An example of a network that does not have all
three major components of a network. It is designed to connect a set of similar
computers that share their data and software with each other (file sharing) No
servers
Local Area Networks (LANs) - ANSWER-one of the 4 major geographic network
types:

gigabits per second)
- May span hundreds or thousands of miles
- Largest geographic scope
Intranet - ANSWER-- A network (often a LAN) that uses the Internet technologies
to share information within an organization
- open only to those inside the organization
- e.g. employees accessing budgets, calendars, and payroll information available
through the organization's intranet
Extranet - ANSWER-- A network that uses the Internet technologies to share
information between organizations
- Open only to those invited users outside the organization
- Accessible through the internet
- e.g. suppliers and customers accessing the inventory information of a company
over an extranet
Application Layer - ANSWER-one of the 5 layers of the Internet Model:
- the user's access to the network
- software to perform work
- by using this layer, the user defines what messages are sent over the network
