Tigers, Sheep and Monkeys in Tamilnadu Forests
Tiger Skin
Tiger and Panther skins were recently seized by Forest officials from the loafers in
forest areas.
Senthil (60) and Induja Parameshwari (45) were nabbed by forest officials when
they were selling tiger skin in Tharapuram Jailani’s house. The forest officials acted as
Tiger skin buyers and approached them. When negotiating the price the crime branch
pounced on them and arrested. The two miscreants revealed that Nachimuthu (43) in
Thiruppur, Raja (60) in Thippampatti, Murugesan (50) in Dharapuram, Kavin (46) in
Perundorai were all engaged in Tiger skin trade.
They had 4 Tiger skins, one Black Panther skin and one Panther skin.
Erode Forest Officer Arun says “We received message that Tiger skins are sold in
the Erode District. We formed a group to monitor it. The miscreants had hid the tiger
skins in a temple located inside the forest. Later they did the trading in Jailani’s house
where they are arrested.
They had illegal possession of tiger and panther skin varieties. All had the tiger
and panther heads with them. They demanded Rs.5 crores for those rare skin varieties.
Such activities are to be curbed only with the support of villagers around the forest who
can watch all suspicious elements. The tribal men sometime join with the killers as they
can smell the vicinity of the tigers. They are paid heavily for their contribution.”
Due to intense fog the grasses for feeding the sheep is dwindling.
In Mananoor in Kodaikanal, we have the Indian Agricultural and Southern District
