It is the part of the hospital designed for the treatment of
outpatients i.e people with health problems who visit the hospital
for diagnosis or treatment but do not require admission for
overnight care.
Modern OPDs offer a wide range of treatment services, diagnostic
tests and minor surgical procedures.
It is usually on the ground floor of the hospital with car packing
facilities nearby.
Wheelchairs and stretchers ar e available for non-ambulatory
patients.
Patients register at the reception desk and then wait for their
appointments.
, Each doctor has a consulting room.
Pediatric clinics are often held in areas separated from the adult
clinics.
Close to the OPD department are X- ray facilities, laboratories,
medical record office and pharmacy.
In the main waiting area there are a range of facilities for the
patient and their families including toilets, public telephones,
water dispenser etc
