• Conjunctiva is a fine, translucent mucous
membrane.
• It joins the eyeball to the eyelids
• It covers the eyelids posteriorly (palpebral
conjunctiva) , is reflected interiorly onto the
sclera (bulbar conjunctiva).
• At the lid margin conjunctiva is continuous
with the skin
• It is firmly adherent at the limbus, and at the
tarsal plate

keratinized stratified squamous epithelium
• Has numerous goblet cells that secrete mucin
• Has thin, richly vascularized lamina propria containing lymphat
