ASSIGNMENT 01
UNIQUE NUMBER: 719045
DUE DATE: 23RD MARCH 2020
, Question 1
1.1) Phylogeny: it expresses genetic DNA relationships between organisms. A
phylogenetic tree of evolutionary development and the diversification
process of a development line.
Classification: based on the beneficial or harmful characteristics of a
plant. It corresponds with concepts and referred to as ‘folk taxonomy’.
1.2) Biological diversity: also known as biodiversity, the variation between
living organisms within certain ecosystems.
Biological resources: genetic sources, organisms, population, biotic
components of ecosystem with real/potential utility or value to
humankind.
1.3) Monophyletic: taxa developed from the diversification of a single
common ancestor or ancestral population system (one autapomorphy in
common).
Polyphyletic: a taxon that arises from more than one ancestor or
ancestral population.
1.4) Species: a group of individual plants that are similar, that are separated
by morphology of the plants.
Subspecies: variation of species below a species level, they represent
population of species in different degrees of differentiation.
1.5) Ingroup: taxon possessing character state of a group being classified.
Outgroup: taxon not a part of a group that is being classified.
