The Present Simple Tense

When do you use the present simple?

We use the present simple when talking about:

- facts,
- habits
-regularity/order

- This book has a red color. (fact)
- Bart always bites his nails. (habit)
- These kids often play with each other. (regularity)

Usually you see signal words in a sentence. They can show you that a sentence is
present simple, e.g.: always, never, frequently, often, sometimes, seldom, on
Saturdays, in the weekend, during the week.

How do you make the present simple?

I run home. Ik ren naar huis.
You run home. Jij rent naar huis.
He runs home. Hij rent naar huis.
She runs home. Zij rent naar huis.
It runs home. Het rent naar huis.

We run home. Wij rennen naar huis.
You run home. Jullie rennen naar huis.
They run home. Zij rennen naar huis.

Shit-rule

You can see we add -s when using he/she/it -> shit:

- she --> she swims fast.
- he --> he swims fast.
- it --> it swims fast.

In all other cases you just use the infinitive:

- to run --> They run across the street.
- to speak --> You speak very well.
- to see --> I see him over there.
