Type I errors
Errors that occur when a researcher incorrectly rejects a true
null hypothesis.
Type II errors
Errors that occur when a researcher fails to reject a false null
hypothesis.
Systematic replication
A method that reproduces the results of previous research to
demonstrate reliability and external validity.
Functional relation
A relationship where changes in the independent variable
produce changes in a socially important target behavior.
Statistical manipulation
The process of using statistical techniques to analyze data,
which cannot replace the manipulation of variables affecting
behavior.
Placebo control
A control method that separates effects produced by a subject's
expectations from the actual effects of a treatment.
