TISSUE RESPONSE TO COMPLETE DENTURE DIRECT SEQUELA OF WEARING DENTURE:


*Long term wear of dentures lead to changes in DENTURE STOMATITIS
the oral tissues.
Classification:
1. Type 1 – a localized
Soft tissue reaction to denture wearing: simple inflammation or
pinpoint hyperemia.
1. Injury and inflammation -caused by trauma.
-if tolerance is low



2. Type II – a more
diffuse erythema
involving a part
or the entire
2. Fibrous tissue growth (flabby hyperplastic denture covered
tissue) mucosa.
–if tolerance is high and trauma tolerable
-caused by presence of microbial plaque
accumulation.

3. Type III – a granular
type commonly
involving the central
part of the hard
palate and alveolar
CAUSES OF MUCOSAL IRRITATION ridge.
-caused by presence of microbial plaque
1. Mechanical irritation by denture accumulation.
2. Accumulation of microbial plaque on
denture
3. Toxic or allergic reaction to constitutents Management of Denture Stomatitis:

1. Correction of ill-fitting dentures
*Local irritation of mucosa, increase mucosal -relined with soft tissue conditioner
