Campaign Celebrations
Agenda Item 4.1: Cancer Awareness Campaign Celebrations
The meeting was held to discuss and plan the Cancer Awareness Campaign
Celebrations for Conwell College, scheduled for 10 November 2024. This campaign
aims to educate and raise awareness among college staff and students about cancer,
its prevention, and supportive care for those affected. Key points discussed under this
agenda item are summarized below:
1. Purpose and Significance of the Campaign
Dr Nku, the Chair, emphasized the critical role of the Cancer Awareness Campaign,
noting that cancer poses a significant threat to the workforce, particularly affecting
individuals within the productive age group of 25-49 years. The goal is to provide
comprehensive information on cancer prevention, early detection, and living with the
illness. This campaign aligns with the 2024 World Cancer Day theme, "Increasing
Impact through Transparency, Accountability, and Partnerships."
2. Proposed Campaign Structure and Activities
Suggestions were made for organizing a memorable and engaging campaign:
• Guest Speaker: Dr Mago proposed inviting a speaker from the Department of
Health to discuss cancer prevention and the corporate sector’s role in combating the
disease.
• Student Participation and Publicity: Mr. Sello, representing the SRC, shared that
the SRC had initiated poster and flyer designs to promote the event across
campuses. Additionally, a ticket-based fundraiser (R20 per ticket) would be
implemented, with SRC members handling ticket and entrance card design.
