a. Risk Factors
The COVID-19 virus causes respiratory symptoms that are very similar to a cold or the flu. The
Covid 19 outbreak first began in December 2019 in Wuhan City China. Many risk factors have
been identified regarding this virus. Some of these factors are people with diabetes, obesity,
weak immune systems, and old age. Evidence has also been found that the male sex and certain
ethnicities are at greater risk of being infected with this virus.
b. Mode of transmission
The COVID-19 virus can easily be transmitted through surfaces or objects used by someone who
is infected. Respiratory droplets are produced when someone who is infected coughs or sneezes
and when people are in close contact with those droplets, they are at high risk of becoming
infected with the virus. The pathogen is carried by the droplets which is considered indirect
transmission. These droplets can enter a person through the nose, mouth, or eyes.
c. Incidence of prevalence
There were 2213 new cases of confirmed COVID-19 worldwide from January 31st to February
1st, 2020. During this time, the population was 7,821,000,000 globally. To calculate the
incidence rate, we first need to divide the number of new cases by the total population and then
multiply by
100.
(2213/7821000000) x 100 = 0.0000282%
