, ABSTRACT
The present research work aims to study preparation,
characterization and application of paper from banana pseudo
stem. Banana pseudo stem were collected from Thukhawadi
Quarter, Mawlamyine Township, Mon State. The physicochemical
properties such as ash content, moisture content and bulk density
of banana pseudo stem were determined by A.O.A.C method. Two
types of papers containing only banana pseudo stem pulp (BP-1)
and mixture of banana pseudo stem pulp, titanium dioxide, silica
powder, acetic acid and glycerin (BP-2) were prepared by
screening and drying method. The physicochemical properties (pH,
ash content, moisture content and bulk density) of prepared papers
were measured by using A.O.A.C method. 3
, Then the physicomechanical properties such as thickness,
tensile strength and tear strength of the prepared papers were
examined by using testing machines. Water solubility and water
uptake of prepared papers were measured. Optimum condition of
prepared paper was selected according to their mechanical
properties (tensile strength). The selected of banana pseudo stem
paper (BP-1) was characterized by FT IR and SEM modern
techniques. According to the experimental results, the selected
banana pseudo-stem paper (BP-1) is more suitable to be used in
packaging.
