WALKING COMMENTARY
My dear tourist please always remember to always keep right to avoid
bumping into other people. Additionally, always use the pedestrian for your safety.
Are we clear with that my dear tourist? Okay let’s start our walking tour here at
Burnham Park. Burnham Park has long been a popular tourist attraction here in
Baguio City. The football field or also known as Melvin Jones in the eastern part of
the park is sometimes used in parades, carnivals, concerts, political rallies and for
display booths during special events and festivities. Also you expect to see the
beautiful display of floral landscapes here at Melvin Jones. This portion of the park
has been a host for major events, most notably the visit of Pope John Paul II.
Presently, this is where the major events of the city take place. The most famous
Panagbenga Festival holds its display here. Just after the big earthquake hit the city
in 1990 many of its residents left their home for fear of aftershocks and temporarily
set up camp in this field.
Again we have a public comfort room at the lake drive adjacent to the melvin
jones grandstand. We also have comfort rooms right under the grandstand. Going
to our next stop is the Picnic Grove, Burnham Park is a popular activity that many
locals and tourists enjoy. You expect to see families having a picnic and sports can
be also done here. The park has numerous open spaces and designated picnic
areas where visitors can relax, unwind and enjoy a leisurely meal with family and
friends. To have a successful picnic, it’s important to prepare well in advance. Bring
a picnic blanket, table cloth or sheet to spread on the ground, and some
comfortable chairs or cushions to sit on. You can also bring your own food and
drinks, or you can buy them from the numerous food vendors located around the
park.
Our next destination is the biking area, situated in the southern part of Burnham
park. You can also try biking, the fee range is 50-60 for an hour pesos with different
types of bike. Early in the morning this area is used for health and wellness exercises
like zumba and hip hop. Expect to see a lot of people biking since the bicycle is for
rent at a very reasonable price. And follow me for we will see the burnham lagoon,
it is situated in the center of burnham park where people can rent boats and it was
rehabilitated in the year 2014. Fishes like tilapia were placed in the lake where
people can do fishing, however if they caught fishes they should return it also.
Expect also that there are many people who go boating since boating is one of the
family activities here in Baguio; the fee is ranging about 100-200 pesos. Do you want
