ABSTRACT

The primary objective of this research study was to assess the profile of drivers at

the Land Transportation Office (LTO) in San Jose, Occidental Mindoro, regarding their

application for a driver's license. Specifically, it aimed to determine the demographic

profile of respondents, including their age, gender, and educational attainment, as well as

the factors influencing their license application and the potential relationship between

these variables. The study employed a descriptive-correlational design, utilizing a self-

made survey questionnaire administered to a sample of 74 driver-respondents selected

through purposive sampling. Data analysis involved the use of frequency, percentage

distribution, weighted mean, and Pearson Moment Correlation. The findings revealed that

a majority of the respondents were adults, predominantly male, with education attainment

typically at the elementary level. The results also highlighted the challenges faced by

,drivers in the license application process at the LTO in San Jose, Occidental Mindoro,

indicating that acquiring a license is often perceived as time-consuming and tiring.

Furthermore, the study found no significant relationship between respondents'

demographic profile and the factors influencing their license application.

INTRODUCTION

License is an official permit to engage in something. Without it, participating in

any activity that requires one is illegal. A license is typically required for undertakings

with dire consequences (Sarne, 2019).

The Philippine Land Transportation Office (LTO) monitors drivers and vehicles

on the country's roads and handles various concerns related to land transportation. This

government agency coordinates with other offices to implement transportation laws. One

of its responsibilities is managing the driver's licenses of over a million vehicle owners in

the country. This is where individuals apply for and update their licenses.

A driver’s license is a government-issued document that permits an individual to

operate a motor vehicle. The Land Transportation Office (LTO) is the sole issuing body

for licenses in the Philippines. These licenses apply to both trucks and cars and serve as

proof of proper training and driving ability. A driver’s license is essential for driving in

the Philippines, and compliance with LTO restriction and condition codes is necessary

for vehicle operation (Franks, 2021).

Various types of licenses are available for application, starting from a student's

permit, with progression to the next level after a few months. Foreigners are also eligible

for these privileges, provided they submit the necessary papers and documents required

by the office. Completion of a test is necessary for determining fitness for driving,

regardless of nationality (Hanna, 2019). The LTO classifies driver licensing into three

categories: student permit, non-professional diver’s license, and professional driver’s
