4. Environmental management
Environment:
-Physical, chemical and biological factors affecting the living organisms in any possible
way is collectively called as environment.
-Environment is the condition in surrounding.
Types of Environment:
1) Natural environment: Condition in surrounding creat by nature.
It consists of air, atmosphere, water, land, living organisms, etc.
2) Artificial environment: Condition in surrounding creat by man.
Environment consists of two basic factors-
1. Biotic factors: living things - microbs, plants, animals etc.
2. Abiotic factors: Non living things - i.e physical factor like temperature, rainfall, wind,
soil, mierals, sunrays etc.
Ecology:
The science that deals with the study of interactions between biotic and abiotic factors of
the environment is called as ecology.
Ecosystem:
Basic functional unit used to study the ecology is called as ecosystem.
- Environment consists of many ecosystems.
- Environmental balance is maintained through continuous operation of various natural
cycles like water cycle, carbon cycle, gaseous cycles like nitrogen cycle, oxygen cycle, etc.
- Environmental balance is also maintained due to various food chains of ecosystem.
Environmental Conservation:
- Avoiding unnecessary & unwanted natural factors or artificial factors which affects the
environment is known as Environmental Conservation.
- When some natural factors of environment and some artificial polluted factors harm
the environment, it creates imbalance between various factors of the environment and
ultimately affects the existence of biotic factors.
Factors affecting environment
Natural factors Manmade factors
Earthquakes, flood, tsunamis, Deforestation , over hunting
volcano, torandoes broadcasting pesticides or fertilizers
air, water, soil, sound pollution
population explosion, fast industrialization
