Human Physiology (BIOL207) – End of Chapter Homework Assignment

Chapter: 7

Instructions: Answer these questions and upload to the appropriate Canvas assignment folder. Please
check course syllabus to ensure that they are submitted prior to the deadline. Some questions may
require that you draw pathways or simple anatomical features to show a physiological process. You can
either draw it on paper and scan it or you can use digital ink to draw it. If you need to draw it on paper,
you can scan and upload the digital file using free scanning software such as Adobe Scan.

Late submissions will not be accepted. Ensure that you know when homework assignments are due and

Chapter 7 Questions:

1. The two general cell types that make up the nervous system are ___ neurons__ and
___________ glial cells__________.
2. Draw a neuron. List the following parts: nucleus, cell body, dendrite, axon hillock, axon,
myelination, Node of Ranvier, axon terminal.

3. Describe the role of sensory neurons and motor neurons. How are they different from each
other in terms of 1) function and 2) anatomical location of cell body, axon, and axon terminal.

1. Function: Sensory neurons are responsible for transmitting sensory information from the
peripheral sensory receptors (such as skin, eyes, and ears) to the central nervous system (CNS).
They help the body perceive stimuli like touch, temperature, pain, and visual or auditory signals.
2. Anatomical Location: The cell bodies of sensory neurons are typically located in the dorsal
root ganglia (for spinal nerves) or in cranial nerve ganglia. Their axons extend from the sensory
receptors to the CNS, where they enter the spinal cord or brainstem. The axon terminals of
sensory neurons are located in the CNS, where they synapse with other neurons.
