Bishop score (pelvic score)
The most commonly used method to rate cervix readiness 4 induction -
ANSWER -bishop score gives points to 5 measurements of the pelvic
examination:
-dilation, effacement of the cervix
station of the fetus
-consistency of the cervix
-position of the cervix
Station - ANSWER -level of the presenting part (fetal part seen) in the
birth canal about the ischial spine to the presenting part of the fetus.
Station assists with assessing - ANSWER fetal descent in labour.
Station measurement
to assess cervical favor-ability - ANSWER An imaginary line@the
ischial spines of the maternal pelvis
Higher is a (-) & lower is (+)
Dilation/effacement/station (5/-1/80%)
desirable for induction ..... - ANSWER scores of 7-10
Reasons to add 1 point to a bishop score - ANSWER preclampsia
-each previous delivery
reasons to subtract 1 point from a bishop score - ANSWER post-date
pregnancy
-nulliparity
-PPROM
(premature-preterm rupture of membranes)
