DOSE/FREQ: FEVER PO Rect (Adults)- 325-1000 mg every 4-6 hr
INFLAMMATION PO (Adults)- 2.4g/day initially; increase to a maintenance
dose of 3.6-5.4g/day in divided doses
ACTION: Reduction of inflammation, reduction of fever, decreased incidence
of transient ischemic attacks and MI.
RATIONALE: PAIN
SIDE EFFECTS: GI BLEEDING, hepatoxicity, dyspepsia
NURSING INTERVENTION: Patients who have asthma, allergies, fever, rash,
facial swelling, assess pain
LAB CONSIDERATIONS: monitor hepatic function, prolong the bleeding time
for 4-7 days, monitor hematocrit
