Two Personal values I hold that connect with a professional code of ethics include

communication, and, compassion. I always wanted to teach since I was very little. My love for

teaching grew immensely because of the time I spent student teaching in my senior year of

undergraduate school. The teacher that was mentoring me had an honest communication with

me. During my time with her, I learned about the difficulties of being a teacher and the rewards.

She showed me how to have open communication with her students, and this led to her students

trusting her. I witnessed how students with behavioral dilemmas, isolated from the world due to

trauma at home and social-emotional battles have open honest communications and trust with

their teacher because she was honest about her expectations and goals for her students. The

respect for both teacher and student was mutual. My mentor teacher got her students to trust her

by including them in their everyday learning and keeping that honest open communication. By

having that open communication, she was also being honest with her students, telling them what

would or would not work. I have valued my experience with my mentor teacher, and I have used

her code of ethics to influence me throughout my teaching career.

Today I hold the same values close to my heart. I have open communication and trust with my

students. I have developed a classroom environment where my students feel respected and

included in our class community. Furthermore, I keep open communication with my coworkers

and principal about what is working within my classroom and what I need support with. I always

, make sure to be entirely honest with them, even if it is difficult to express to them what I need

sometimes. By having this open communication with my colleagues and directors, I can trust

them when they give me criticism or advise me when they think I am wrong.

Having compassion in a work environment is also an important value for me. I show respect to

all the people represented in my community including the janitor, lunch workers, bus drivers,

and parents. It is easier to work in an environment where respect is a core value because you will

witness people bring out the best versions of themselves. Having compassion within the

workplace allows you to listen to one another for understanding rather than listening to one

another without caring. All human beings experience their own personal stress, pain, and

suffering and we should not assume that everyone is always feeling great. This is why it is

important for me to be kind to my co-workers and my direct supervisors. Being kind will lead to

trust and therefore create stronger relationships.




2.

My ethical obligations as a school leader are to make inclusiveness part of the school culture and

focus on the well-being of students and staff as a value of all decision-making. Making sure the

well-being of my students and staff will be practiced by being respectful and committed to them.

I know that to gain respect from students and staff you must give respect to them first.
