1. Which of these points do you relate to or agree with the most?
In the YouTube video that I watched, entitled "The Benefits of Reading,” Ella
Lee talks about how reading has influenced her life and emphasize its
advantages. One particular point that attracts me the most is that reading
challenges our way of thinking . By engaging ourselves in stories, we get a
distinctive and immersive way to experience the world through the eyes of
others; which helps to develop empathy and challenges our assumptions.
Engaging with characters’ emotions and struggles in a narrative setting
establishes an emotional empathy. Reading exposes us to point of views that
may challenge our predetermined ideas and biases, encouraging us to
question our opinions and consider different viewpoints—which can bring up
a more unprejudiced and compassionate ideas.
2. If you were to remake this video to add your personal touch, what would
you change? Be specific about your personal experience.
If I were to remake this video to add my personal touch, I would include the
following points:
English speaking improvement: I was a shy girl with not so good English-
speaking skills. However, reading a lot of books written in English helped me
to cope with my fear of speaking it, especially when socializing with people.
Increase confidence: During my high school days, I was addicted to reading
English novels and pocketbooks, which eventually helped me to shape and
speak out my mindset and boost my self-confidence. Now I can speak English
confidently without prior practice. Reading has not only following improved
my language skills but also inculcate in me the confidence to convey my
thoughts and ideas.
