Developmental Validation
The acquisition of test data and determination of conditions and limitations of a new or
novel DNA methodology for use on forensics and/or casework reference samples.
Customer
Any person or organization that engages the service of a testing or calibration
laboratory.
Objective Evidence
Data supporting the existence or verity of something.
Service
The performance of those adjustments or procedures specified which are to be
performed by the user, manufacture or other services personnel in order to ensure the
intended performance of instruments and equipment.
Quality Manual
A document specifying the quality management system of an organization
Guidelines
A set of general principe used to provide direction and parameters for decision making
Measurement Assurance
A process to ensure adequate measurement results that may include, but is not limited
to: 1) use of good experimental design principles so that the entire measurement
process, its components, and relevant influence factors can be well-characterized,
monitored, and controlled; 2) complete experimental characterization of the
measurement process uncertainty including statistical variations, contributions from all
known or suspected influence factors, imported uncertainties, and the propagation of
uncertainties throughout the measurement process; and 3) continuously monitoring the
performance and state of statistical control of the measurement process with proven
statistical process control techniques including the measurement of well-characterized
check standards along with the normal workload and the use of appropriate control
charts.
Procedure
(Protocol, standard operating procedure, or other equivalent) is an established practice
to be followed in performing a specified task or under specific circumstances.
Precision
Characterizes the degree of mutual agreement among a series of individual
measurements, values, and/or results.
Performance Check
A quality assurance measure to assess the functionality of laboratory instruments and
equipment that affect the accuracy and/or validity of forensic sample analysis.
Nonconformity
Non-fulfillment of NVLAP or ISO requirement for accreditation; previously referred to as
a deficiency.
Uncertainty of Measure
