 Function


Function is the purpose or activity to be accomplished by creative educative process. The
term applies to education as a whole, to a unit of a school system or to some activities carried on
by the school. Functions are fulfilled by providing some ends or goals.


 Administration


It is a universal process which characterizes all group efforts whether it is public or
private, large or small scale. Technically, it is an organization, direction, coordination, and
control of human and material resources to achieve the desired ends. The term “Administration”
doesn’t refer to any single process or act. It is like a broad umbrella encompassing a number of
processes such as: planning, organizing, directing, coordinating, controlling and evaluating the
performance. The same situation occurs in the field of educational administration. The concept
of educational administration is applicable in case of an educational organisation which has
certain purposes or goals to fulfill.


 School Administration


In an educational setting, it is the process of review, planning, organizing, directing, and
controlling human or material resources efficiently so as to direct activities toward common
goals and objectives.
School administration officers oversee the daily operations of schools, colleges, universities,
day care centers and preschools. A school administrator's specific responsibilities differ between
organizations, but often these administrators are an important link between students and local
communities. Schools offering College Administration & Leadership degrees can also be found
in these popular choices.

, 1. PLANNING

Planning is an activity of devising and selecting courses of action directed toward the
achievement of educational goals and objectives. It means to decide in advance what is to be
done. It charts a course of actions for the future. As what a Chinese Proverb says “if you are
planning for one year, grow rice. If you are planning for 20 years, grow trees. If you are planning
for centuries, grow men!”
By planning is meant to predetermine who will do which task at what place and
how. The administrators have to take due steps for the successful execution of the functions of
the school from time to time. Planning means choosing the best out of various alternative
objectives, processes, policies and programmes. The significance of planning lies in arranging
specialist training programmes and different roles of different personnel as attached to the
educational institution and also the functions that are undertaken in realizing such objectives and
aims. In fact, the educational planning is a progressive process. It does not only keep in view the
present requirements, but also looks into the future for different needs that are likely to arise in
future due to the change in perception, scientific development, technological improvements and
new inventions besides social thinking and political changes.

2. ORGANIZING

It is defining roles, responsibilities and arranging and coordinating the resources needed
to successfully carry out plans. The term organization is quite extensive and does not admit a
definite and universal definition. Various scholars have therefore defined the term differently.
The chief ones are as follows:

An identifiable group of people contributing their efforts toward the attainment of goals
is called organization.
