Online Learning
The global Covid-19 pandemic has ushered in a new age of online learning. Review
your organizational training programs and prepare a report.
1.1 a. Evaluate the types of E- Learning and development programs arranged or
funded by your organization for employees in the past 12 months. Include examples
on how digital technologies are used currently to support content delivery and
collaboration within your workforce. What opportunities does this hold for you?
The COVID-19 pandemic forced the world to make drastic changes to adapt,
some of which are here to stay, even in the post-pandemic world. This change could
not be more valid in the learning industry, whereby the shift to online learning was
required and now represents the new way of learning. Our company, a software
development firm, found itself adapting and, at times, creating such online learning
material and content. Our organization has used several e-learning and development
programs for its employees. Passive e-learning systems included posting learning
videos on the company website, while active systems included holding video
conference calls(Broadbent, 2021). Many more systems were implemented to
enable the employees to learn and communicate effectively.
The e-learning systems implemented have opened several opportunities that
were once unavailable. Passive online learning has allowed me the flexibility to fix
my schedule, therefore having a better work-life balance. Recording active learning
sessions have given me the ability to replay lessons, making it easier to understand
topics by recapping them whenever needed.
b. Discuss how perceptions of digital learning and online delivery have shifted
within the organization during recent times. Include a description on various
, 3
technologies applied for organizational training processes over the past few
years
Before the COVID-19 pandemic, the company valued face-to-face conferences
and learning sessions. They were seen as more engaging since the environment
would be tailored strictly to studying. Online learning sessions were thought to be
prone to distraction and laziness and would not be viable for learning complicated
topics. Consequently, they were reserved for unimportant meetings and general
communication. COVID-19 necessitated the shift to online learning, and with that,
the previous notions of online learning were challenged.
In the past, organizational training was done through on-the-job training, live
instructor-led training, live coaching and mentoring, and other in-person training.
PowerPoint presentations and in-person coaching constituted part of many training
sessions. With the shift to online learning, in-person coaching session for software
and systems has been replaced with remote desktop tutoring sessions.
Presentations are now shared in an online training session, with virtual hand raises
and other tools enabling sessions to be as engaging as possible.
C. Review the roles of LMS and LXP systems, virtual and augmented reality,
and artificial intelligence in learning trends within today’s industry.
The pandemic’s start saw many organizations trying out different online
learning systems. Over time, a trend has been seen whereby organizations
have gravitated to a select number of online learning methods, including
learning management systems and learning experience platforms. Learning
management systems have allowed two-way interactions with the instructors
and the students, while learning experience platforms have allowed students
to learn at their own time and pace. Integration of learning management
