Lead in Teacher asks students in pairs to recall 3 things they did last S-S 5mins
summer? Teacher gives feedback and writes students
examples on the board e.g. “I went sailing”, “I ran a
marathon”, “I flew a helicopter”
Presentation Now teacher writes another three sentences on the board “I T/S 5mins
was swimming with dolphins when I heard thunder roar” and P/W 10mins
“I ate prawns for lunch” and “I am studying for my exams at
the moment ”. The teacher asks students in pairs to discuss the
differences and similarities in the three tenses, eliciting
meaning and form.
Having elicited meaning the teacher explains what the past
continuous interrupted is describing situations in the past
when a continuous action was interrupted and writes its form
on the board
Subject + was/were +Ving = I was walking down the street
(Past continuous)
Subj + past simple (verb +ed) when I saw a UFO (interrupted
action in the simple past tense)
Teacher drills the sentence structure to practice pronunciation
and intonation eliciting and highlighting form.
Teacher draws a timeline on the board and asks students T/S 2mins
where the above three tenses in presentation stage should be
T/S 2mins
on the timeline to confirm meaning and understanding of
different tenses.
Teacher then checks with students by asking three concept
