GRADED
Precedent Cell
A cell referred to by a formula in another cell.
Watch Window
A separate window from the worksheet window that displays cell addresses, values,
and formulas so you can monitor and examine formula calculations involving cells not
immediately visible on the screen.
IFERROR Function
A logic function that checks a cell to determine if that cell contains an error or if a
formula will result in an error. If no error exists, the function returns the value of the
formula. If an error exists, the function returns the type of error.
Syntax Error
An error that occurs when a formula or function violates construction rules, for example,
by containing a misspelled function name.
Split Bars

bottom panes.
Ungrouping
The process of deselecting grouped worksheets so that actions performed on one sheet
do not affect other worksheets.
Run-time Error
An error that occurs when a syntactically correct formula or function contains a cell
reference with invalid or missing data; an error that occurs when there is a problem with
software or hardware while executing a program.
Linking
The process of creating external cell references from worksheets in one wordbook to
cells on a worksheet in another workbook.
Consolidate
A method of combining data from multiple worksheets to create a comprehensive

Grouping
The process of joining rows or columns of related data together into a single entity so

Input Message
Descriptive text or instructions that inform a user about the restrictions for entering data
in a cell.
Circular Reference
, A situation that occurs when a formula contains a direct or indirect reference to the cell
containing the formula.

Logic Errors
An error that occurs when a formula is syntactically correct but logically incorrect, which
produces inaccurate results.
3-D Reference
A reference within a formula or function on one worksheet that includes the name of
another worksheet, column letter, and row number located within the same workbook.
The three dimensions include the worksheet name, the column, and the row.
Dependent Cells
A cell containing a formula that relies on other cells to obtains its value.
Locked Cell
A cell that prevents users from editing the contents or formatting of that cell in a
protected worksheet.
Data Validation Rule
A set of rules that must be followed to allow data to be entered in a cell.
Destination File
A file that contains a link to receive data from a source file.
Tracer Arrows
A colored line that shows relationships between precedent and dependent cells.
Formula Auditing
Tools that enable you to display or trace relationships for formulas, show formulas,
check for errors, and evaluate formulas.
Error Alert
A message that displays when a user enters invalid data in a cell that contains a
validation rule.
Hyperlink
An electronic link that, when clicked, goes to another location in the same or a different
worksheet, opens another file, opens a webpage in a Web browser, or opens an email
