affects leader-member exchange quality and outcomes. Journal of Leadership Studies,

Summary
This is an empirical study by Coleman and Donoher on transformational leadership beyond the
dyad of leader and follower. The main arguments of the article involve the role that the
contingency perspective of leadership plays in shifting the focus away from the role that groups
play in understanding leadership
Assessment
The authors made a valuable contribution to leadership literature by pinpointing the broader
consequences of TFL and offering implications for both theory and practice. This article is more
relevant to leadership research because it goes beyond the leader and follower dyad.
Reflection
This article is helpful to the research on the effectiveness of leadership and its outcomes in an
organizational or group context. This source should be used for direct quotation and as a
reference for additional supporting information when discussing why dyadic relationships are
insufficient in describing effective leadership.
