, In the many years I have been in this industry I never thought I'd be living in a
community with a digital divide. For those of you who don't know what that means, it's
essentially an area that lacks the accessibility to upgraded technology. In previous years this may
have been a rural area that did not have a access to a phone line, as technology has advanced this
has changed into being somewhere that does not have access to things like an internet connection
or even computers. Here in this small town, we don't have access to a public library that would
typically bridge the gap for a digital divide. A public library can provide things like an internet
connection, public computers, printers etc.
The problems that can come from a digital divide especially in this era is the lack of
support for education, schools in this area may not be able to access the most up to date
resources for their students. This can also create a large disconnect for current events, where
people in these places are almost left in the dark regarding what's going on in the world today.

these places that have a digital divide. This divide may take place in a low income area other
than a rural area, and what that speaks too is that in a low income area they may have the
capability to bridge the gap, but don't have the financial resources to execute bridging this gap.
The reason behind the digital divide is just as telling as the divide itself. The digital divide made
itself very evident during the pandemic, when people were forced to work from home along with
attend school from home digitally, many Americans did not have access to the internet like you'd
