,INTRODUCTION
Fed-batch cultivation is a widely used bio-processing
technique in which cells are grown in a bioreactor with a
single batch of nutrition.
The bioreactor configuration plays a critical role in
ensuring optimal process performance, including cell
growth, productivity, and product quality.
Key consideration for bioreactor configuration include
bioreactor type, size, agitation system, aeration system,
temperature control, pH control, feeding system, and
sampling and monitoring system.
, 1. BIOREACTOR TYPES
The two main types of fed-batch bioreactor are as
follow:-
1. Stirred-tank bioreactor:-
STRs are the most commonly used types of fed batch
bioreactor.
They consist of a cylindrical vessel with a stirrer or
impeller that mixes the content.
The stirrer can be top-entering or bottom-entering
depending on the design.
