Consumer play a very important role in the market place & their consumption patterns sig
influence the society & the economy.
In modern philosophy of marketing, Consumer is supposed to be a king is actually , a vict
market malpractices.
To maximize profits many businessmen exploit consumers by supplying poor quality goods
prices. Hence Consumers are exposed to physical environmental & health hazards.
As a result, Consumers do not get value for their money, therefore it has become necessary to p
consumers from exploitation, to save them from adulterated sub-standard goods & servi
safeguard their interest.
In order to provide for better protection of the interests of the consumers, the first consumer p
Act was enacted in 1986, which came in to effect from 15 th April 1987.
This Act ensures the rights of consumers, enumerating right to safety, information choice repre
etc., etc.,
Since then NATIONAL CONSUMER DAY IN INDIA IS OBSERVED ON 24 TH OF DECEM
THE CONSUMER PROTECTION ACT WAS ENACTED.

Keeping in view the rapid change in the industry and commerce across the globe, th
Consumer Protection Act, 1986 has been amended with a new enactment, Consumer Prot
2019 which was notified on August 19th 2019, with wider scope which came into effect i
2020 along with new rules and regulations.
This Act is to provide for protection of the interests of consumers & for the said purpose, to
authorities for timely & effective administration & settlement of Consumers disputes & f
connected therewith or incidental thereto.
