mechanoreceptors
Describe the relationship between lactate threshold and ventilatory threshold.
• The ventilator threshold occurs because the decrease in blood ph. When the muscles
exercise at low intensity, very little lactate is produced.
Lactate, like ventilation is produced at high intensity exercise. the transition between the
production of small amount and large amounts of lactate occurs over small range of
intensities and this is where the ventilator threshold comes in. the lactate production is
associated with a decreases in ph is then buffered by bicarbonate, resulting in an
increase in blood pCO2. Chemoreceptors then stimulate the brain to increase
ventilation which returns pCO2 to normal.
