Components
• Testis
Two testes are found outside the body in the
scrotum. They are egg shaped and glandular.
• Sperm duct (Vas deferens)
A small tube that links each of the testes to the
urethra.
• Glands
There are 3 – the prostate gland is one.
• Penis
The male organ with the urethra.
• Scrotum
The bag of skin found in the crotch, under the
penis. It consists of wrinkled skin and muscle.
, Functions
• Testis à Produce sperm and the hormone
testosterone.
• Sperm duct (Vas deferens) à Transports sperm
and seminal fluid (together called semen) to
the urethra.
• Glands à Secretes fluid which feeds the sperm
cells and serves as a medium for transport.
• Penis
For excreting urine and for copulating with the
female to transfer semen for reproduction.
• Scrotum
It protects the testes and it regulates the
temperature of the testicles so that it is just
right for sperm production (slightly lover than
body temperature – 37◦ C).
Cold temperatures will result in the muscle of
the scrotum contracting, moving closer to the
body for warmth.
