1. IR Pilot Qualifications Requirements: 50 hrs x-country PIC
- Of which, 10 in airplanes
40 hrs actual/sim Instrument
- Of which, 15 hrs with CFII, including one x-country flight:
- 250 nm along airwards or ATC direction.
- Instrument approach at each airport.
- 3 diff. kinds of approaches using nav systems
- With filed IFR flight plan
- 3 hrs instrument flight training in prev 2 cal mo
Max 30 hrs FTD instrument under pt 142 Max 20 hrs
FTD instrument not under 142

No more than 20 hrs of total instrument time can be credited in a flight sim, FTD, or ATD, except

2. When is IR required?: When PIC under IFR or in weather less than VFR.
When carrying passengers for compensation or hire on x-country flight >50nm at night.

6. IFR Clearance Items: CRAFT
Clearance Limit: the point to which the aircraft is cleared to fly IFR to, and nowhere beyond.
Route: could differ from filed route
Altitude: Initial + expected next and time frame.
Frequency: DEP freq
Transponder: squawk code
Any of these fields can differ from what is expected, listen to and write down all clearances.
7. How to obtain an IFR clearance: File an IFR flight plan on EFB apps, and online or over the
phone with Leidos flight service.
Contact CLNC DEL or GND (check chart supplement for airport-specific proce- dures).
At a non-towered field, call flight service.
You may also depart VFR if VMC exist, and pick up IFR with approach/center en route. Follow the
same procedure, but make a cold call with "IFR request" in the air first.

11.PIC responsibilities: 91.3
PIC is directly responsible for, and is the final authority as to, the operation of the aircraft.
In an in-flight emergency requiring immediate action, the PIC may deviate from any rule in Part
91 to the extent required to meet that emergency, and must send a written report of that
deviation to the Administrator.
12.IR + General Currency Requirements: Flight review: within 24 cal. mo.
To carry passengers as PIC:
- 3 TOs/landings in prev 90 days
- 1 hr after sunset/before sunrise, landings must be conducted in this time, to a full stop.
