Future Steps and Reflections on Curitiba's Sustainable
Development and Urban Planning
What do you think should be the future steps in Curitiba? For example,
what would be a good 'next project' to continue their movement in
sustainable development and quality urban planning?
Future steps in Curitiba should be directed towards adapting the city to
the threats caused by climate change, population growth and the strong
pressures coming from globalization that demands the irrational use of
resources. For this reason, it is necessary that local authorities maintain
this integrated and interconnected vision so that policies continue to
strengthen the city's transport system, urban planning, environmental
education, health, education, recycling programs, tourism, the economy,
landscaping, environmental management and all those factors that allow
the good functioning of the city and guarantee both human health and
safety as well as environmental quality.
Do you think any of the plans, projects, policies, educational programs
and / or changes they have made would work well in your own city?
Which and why?
I think it is difficult to apply a project in my city like those that have been
executed in Curitiba, since for years the problems of my city have been
taken into account in an isolated way and there have never been
effective environmental policies that promote an integrated and
interconnected vision to achieve positive changes. That is why a good
start would be to ensure that local authorities formulate good policies
focused on guaranteeing the quality of life of its inhabitants, in satisfying
their needs for education, health, recreation, nutrition, transportation,
employment and well-being, but also oriented towards building a citizen
vision more conscientious and committed with environmental causes
through environmental education programs so that people begin to
demand a cleaner, safer, more organized and sustainable city. What is
the most significant change or project in the city of Curitiba that you
think has influenced it becoming more livable, clean or sustainable?
