Global Warming: Causes and Impacts
Global warming refers to the long-term increase in Earth's average surface temperature due to human
activities, primarily the release of greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide, methane, and nitrous oxide.
This phenomenon has far-reaching impacts on the environment, ecosystems, and human societies.

Causes of Global Warming
Greenhouse Gas Emissions: The burning of fossil fuels for energy, industrial processes, deforestration
and transportation is the primary source of carbon dioxide emissions. They trap heat in the Earth's
atmosphere hence leading to the warming of the planet.

Deforestation: The removal of trees by industrial activities withot replacing them reduces the number
of trees available to absorb carbon dioxide, contributing to increased greenhouse gas concentrations in
the world.

Industrial Processes: Certain industrial activities release potent greenhouse gases like methane (CH4)
and nitrous oxide (N2O), which are potent greenhouse gases. Methane is released during oil and gas
production, coal mining, and livestock farming, while nitrous oxide is produced by agricultural and
industrial activities.

Impacts of Global Warming
Rising Sea Levels: Melting polar ice caps and glaciers contribute to the rise in sea levels, posing a threat
to coastal communities and ecosystems.

Extreme Weather Events: Global warming intensifies weather patterns, leading to more frequent and
severe heatwaves, storms, and droughts.

Ecosystem Disruption: Shifts in temperature and precipitation patterns disrupt ecosystems, affecting
plant and animal species' habitats and migration patterns.

Human Health Risks: Heat-related illnesses, the spread of vector-borne diseases, and compromised air
and water quality are linked to global warming.

Rising temperatures: Global warming leads to an increase in average temperatures, resulting in
heatwaves, changes in precipitation patterns, and the melting of polar ice caps and glaciers.

Economic and social impacts: Global warming can lead to economic losses due to damage to
infrastructure, agriculture, and property, as well as displacement of communities and loss of livelihoods.

Mitigation and Adaptation
Efforts to mitigate global warming include transitioning to renewable energy sources, improving energy
efficiency, and implementing policies to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Additionally, adaptation
strategies such as building resilient infrastructure and enhancing disaster preparedness are crucial for
coping with the impacts of global warming.
