1. What are the five Bronfenbrenner's ecological systems theory systems?: -
Microsystem, Mesosystem, Exosystem, Macrosystem, Chronosystem
2. What is the microsystem?: Impact a child directly. These are the people with whom the child
interacts such as parents, peers, and teachers. The relationship between individuals and
those around them need to be considered.
3. What is the Mesosystem?: Interactions between those surrounding the individ- ual. The
relationship between parents and schools, for example will indirectly affect the child.
4. What is the Exosystem?: Larger institutions such as the mass media or the healthcare
system. These have an impact on families and peers and schools who operate under policies
and regulations found in these institutions.
5. What is the Macrosystem?: We find cultural values and beliefs at this level.. These larger
ideals and expectations inform institutions that will ultimately impact the individual.
6. What is the Chronosystem?: All of this happens in an historical context referred to as this
level. Cultural values change over time, as do policies of educational institutions or
governments in certain political climates. Development occurs at a point in time
7. What are the boundaries within the family systems theory?: Boundaries are distinct emotional,
psychological, or physical separateness between individuals, roles, and subsystems in the
family. Boundaries are crucial to healthy family func- tioning
8. What is functionalism?: Functionalists uphold the notion that families are an important
social institution and that they play a key role in stabilizing society.
9. What is conflict theory?: Conflict theory highlights the role of power in family life and contends
that the family is often not a haven but rather an arena where power struggles can occur. This
exercise of power often entails the performance of family status roles

child but has a significant influence on their socialization

others. A securely attached person can trust others and be trusted, love and accept love, and
get close to others with relative ease.
15.What does the avoidant attachment style mean?: a form of insecure attach- ment style marked
by a fear of intimacy. People with avoidant attachment style tend to have trouble getting close
to others or trusting others in relationships, and relationships can make them feel suffocated.
16.What does the anxious/ambivalent attachment style mean?: a form of inse- cure attachment
style marked by a deep fear of abandonment. Anxiously attached people tend to be very
insecure about their relationships, often worrying that their partner will leave them and thus

behavior

important value and expectation. Thus they raise children to be obedient and respect authority.
Discipline often involves physical means to enforce said obedience (corporal punishment)
-Middle class parents: White collar jobs; work emphasizes autonomy and indepen- dent
judgment. These parents tend to value independence and creativity in their children (friends
who parent differently). Far less likely to use corporal punishment.

influenced by many different "contexts," "settings," or "ecolo- gies
