AWS Cloud Practitioner (CLF-C02) - Domain 1 - Cloud Concepts
1. What is Cloud Computing?: is a remote virtual pool of on-demand shared resources offering compute, storage,
database, and network services that can be rapidly deployed at scale.
2. What are the six advantages of cloud computing?: These are six advantages of making the switch.
Trade fixed expense for variable expense Benefit from
massive economies of scale Stop guessing capacity
Increase speed and agility
Stop spending money running and maintaining data centers
Go global in minutes
3. What is Virtualization?: it allows the possibility of having multiple virtual ma- chines (VMs), each running
essentially a separate operating system and applica- tions, installed on 1 physical server.
4. What is Hypervisor?: is a piece of software used to create the virtualized environment allowing for
multiple VMs to be installed on the same host.
5. What are the benefits of Virtualization?: Reduced capital expenditure Reduced operating costs
Smaller footprint Optimization of
resources
6. What is another name for a VM?: "Instance" is another name for this compute resource.
7. What are common terms in Cloud Computing?: Compute Storage
Database
Network
Machine Learning Artificial
Intelligence
8. What is Compute resource?: provides the 'brains' to process your workload. (Think of resources with CPUs and
RAM as this form factor).
9. What is Storage resource?: provides methods for saving and storing your data. (Think of resources such as HDDs,
NAS, or SANs)

10.What is Database resource?: provides methods for storing structured sets of data, used by your applications.
(Think of resources such as SQL Server, Oracle and MySQL)
11.What is Network resource?: provides methods for connectivity allowing other resources (compute, storage,
database, etc...) to communicate with each other. (Think of resources such as routers, firewalls, etc...)
12.What is Public Cloud?: A model which a vendor makes available the use
of shared infrastructure, including Compute, Storage, Database, and Network re- sources. It can be provisioned on-deman
and typically accessed over the internet for public usage.
13.What is On-Premises?: A model which infrastructure is privately hosted, man- aged, and owned by the individual
company using it.
14.What is Hybrid Cloud?: A model which utilizes aspects or features of both Private and Public cloud.
15.What is On-Demand Resourcing?: When you want to provision a resource within the Cloud. it's almost
immediately available where and when you need it.
16.What is Scalability?: the ability to rapidly scale your environment's resources both up and down and in and out.
17.What is Economy of Scale?: the value of acquiring a large quantity of re- sources and spreading the cost
across a wide margin of users for a low rate.
18.What is AWS Root Account?: an account owner that performs task requiring unrestricted access.
19.What is AWS IAM user?: an user within an account that performs daily tasks.
20.What are features of AWS Account?: AWS services are housed within an Account. Accounts can be Master
Payer accounts that contain billing data or Linked Accounts which do not.
AWS Organizations and other services can be used to manage Accounts within AWS.
Many AWS services can span Account boundaries.
21.What is Reserved Instance (RI)?: A commitment to use a cloud resource, usually of a specific type, location, and
size, for some period of time, usually 1 or 3 years, in exchange for a discounted rate.
22.What is Savings Plan (SP)?: Similar to RI but more flexible and can only be applied to compute usage.
23.What is All Upfront Reserved Instance (AURI)?: paying for the entire reserved instance term with on upfront
payment.
