repression -

suppression -

displacement -
✅transfer of emotions about one to another. (handling situation professionally but yelling at
someone later bc of anger.)
projection -
✅blame another unconsciously for own inadequaies.
rationalization -
✅justify your behavior with socially acceptable reasons and tend to ignore the real reasons
underlying the behavior.
intellectualization -
✅denying socially unacceptable feelings or strong feelings that can not be easily expressed.
sublimation -
✅used unconsciously to express socially unacceptable instinctive drives or impulses in approved
and acceptable ways. (30-year old father and frustrated athlete forcing his child to excel in a sport)
compensation -
✅you use a talent or an attribute to the fullest in order to compensate for a realized personal
shortcoming. (disabled athlete finds satisfaction in writing about the game or helping a coach)
, temporary withdrawal -
✅retract from facing a painful or difficult situation.
malingering -
✅pretending to be sick in order to avoid dealing with situations that are unpleasant
denial -
✅refusal to admit something so you do not have to deal with the problem or situation.
tort -
✅any number of actions done by one person or group of people that cause injury to another
regression -
✅behaving in ways that are typically characteristics of an earlier developmental level. (student
consoles herself during final exam week w eating homemade ice cream just like her mom did)
defamation -
✅to slander, or to attack the reputation of an individual or group.
assult -
✅deliberate attempt or threat to touch without consent
battery -
✅unauthorized touching of another person
libel -
✅a published false statement that is damaging to a person's reputation; a written defamation.
slander -
