Lower Limb Anatomy - Study Notes
Introduction
* This pdf provides a review of lower limb anatomy, including muscles, nerves, blood supply,
and lymphatic drainage.
Thigh Compartments
* The thigh is divided into anterior, medial, and posterior compartments.
* Each compartment has specific functions and nerve supply.
* Anterior compartment:
* Muscles: Quadriceps femoris (rectus femoris, vastus medialis, vastus lateralis, vastus
intermedius), Sartorius
* Function: Flex hip, extend knee
* Nerve supply: Femoral nerve
* Medial compartment:
* Muscles: Adductor longus, brevis, magnus, gracilis, pectineus
* Function: Adduct hip (bring thighs together)
* Nerve supply: Obturator nerve
* Posterior compartment (hamstring muscles):
* Muscles: Biceps femoris, semitendinosus, semimembranosus
* Function: Flex knee, extend hip.
* Nerve supply: Sciatic nerve
Lumbosacral Plexus
* The lumbosacral plexus is formed by the ventral rami of spinal nerves.
* It supplies nerves to the lower limb.
