Constitutional Conventions
Definition: Conventions are unwritten rules/practices that supplement the AU
constitution. they seek to ensure the AU S.O.P and democratic processes are
maintained.
conventions:
1. the political party that wins the majority in H.O.P are invited to form executive
gov by gg
2. the leader of that majority becomes pm and chooses the cabinet (MPS)
3. the GOV are expected to resign if they lose majority support in H.O.P.
4. MPs and PMs are expected to resign for major failings in policy
5. GG must always act on the advice of p
6. GG must approve any bill into law that H.O.P. and the Senate have passed.

1. Plural: First past the post
used to elect local councils
voters either tick or cross one box for who they want to win
whoever gets the most wins. (even if below 50%)
Advantages
easy to do = less informal votes
easy to count = fast results
