BASIC SENTENCE
Basic sentence contain Subject + Verb. Verbal predicate contains all kind of verbs
such as V1, V2, V3, V+ing while nominal predicate contains all parts of speech but
verb.
Complement
Complement can be put on the sentence or not
depends on the sentence is transitive or
instransitive.
a. Linking Verb (complement) needs object to
explain the whole sentence clearly.
To be (is, am, are, was, were)
Look, sound, smell, taste, feel, appear,
become, seem, remain, stay, grow, turn.
b. Instransitive Verbs
This kind of verb doesn't need objects.
Example: I read, she cooks.
c. Transitive Verbs
This kind of verb need objects because it uses
linking verb.
Example: She gives me an apple, You smell
sweet.
d. Adjunct/Adverb
An adjunct is a word or phrase that provides
additional information about a verb, adjective, or
another adjunct, but is not essential to the
sentence's basic meaning.
Adverb of time : now, later, yesterday, at nine
Adverb of manner : gently, genuinely, happily
Adverb of frequency : seldom, always, never
Adverb of place : here, there, on the way
Adverb of degree : extremely, somewhat
Adverb of probability : maybe, almost
