Extends downward within ⑭ the bony pelvis.

Boundaries:
Superior: Diaphragm (separates from thoracic cavity, moves with respiration)
Inferior: Pelvic inlet (continuous with pelvic cavity)
Anterior: Anterior abdominal wall (muscles - firm & elastic for protection and expansion)
Posterior: Posterior abdominal wall (lumbar vertebrae & muscles - osteomuscular & rigid for support)
Lateral: Lower ribs & parts of anterior abdominal wall muscles
