A. Analyze a specific section of the “Estimates of Emergency Department Visits in the
United States from 2016–2021” dataset by doing the following:
1. Select data from one of the groups (sex, age, race/ethnicity, region, metropolitan statistical
area (MSA), or primary payment source) and provide the top two primary diagnoses and the
most common reason for visits within the subcategories.
Group: Sex
Subgroup: Male, Female
Primary Diagnoses Male: Injury and Poisoning, and Symptoms, signs, and abnormal clinical
and laboratory findings
Primary Diagnoses Female: Injury and Poisoning, and Symptoms, signs, and abnormal
clinical and laboratory findings
Most common reason for visits Female: Stomach and abdominal pain, cramps and spasms
Most common reason for visits Male: Stomach and abdominal pain, cramps and spasms
2. Describe three notable variations within the selected subcategories using pivot tables
and pivot charts.
- Females visit more frequently than males for stomach and abdominal pain, cramps,
and spasms.
- While abdominal pain is a more common reason for visits among females, males have
a higher primary diagnosis rate for injuries and poisonings.
- Among females, the most frequent primary diagnosis is related to symptoms, signs,
and abnormal clinical and laboratory findings.
