The Nature of Management
Management
Management is a process designed to achieve an organization’s objectives by
using its resources effectively and efficiently in a changing environment
Effectively means having the intended result with the available resources (ex:
given the resources available for marketing maximizing sales)
Efficiently means accomplishing objectives with a minimum of resources
Menagers:
Individuals in organizations who make decision about use of resources
they use planning, organizing, staffing, directing and controlling to reach
organizational objectives (obbiettivi)
Staffing
their goal is to hire people to carry out the work of the organization
their goal is also downsizing
Acquiring suppliers
another critical aspect is the supply: in order to acquire supply they have to
ensure products are made available to customers. They also have to maximize
efficiency and provide creative solutions
Financial resources
Needed to pay for essential activities
Managers are in charge of 4 main activities:
The Nature of Management 1
, Panning: Its the process of determining the organization’s objectives and
deciding how to accomplish them. This include, the vision (what you want to
became in like 10 years for example, the vision are the goals), the mission
(which is like the philosophy of the company. Ex: apple want to create the best
phones in the world…) and then the objectives (different from the goals
because they are measurable. Planning also mean make plans; there are
different types of plans: Strategic Plans, Tactical Plans, Operational Plans,
Crisis management of contingency planning.
Organizing: Its the process of structuring of the resources and activities to
accomplish objectives in an efficient and effective manner. A good
organization helps create synergy, created generally by the economy of scope
(EX: producing a Ferrari and a panda together cost more then creating them
following two different plans), establish lines of authority, improves
communication, helps avoid duplication of resources and can improve
competitiveness by speeding up decision making and including the workers in
the process of creating ideas.
Directing: It’s the process of motivating and leading employees (if they are
motivated they will perform better) to achieve organizational objectives. You
can do that by gives incentives and increase salaries. The directors tells
employees what to do and when to do it, they also determine and administrate
rewards and recognitions , they motivate employees by providing incentives
and finally they ask workers for innovative ideas. They also set deadlines.
