About this task:
A case study is designed for you to demonstrate your skills in reading, accurately interpreting
legislation, workplace policies and procedures and providing workable responses and strategies.
The case study contains two scenarios accompanied by questions relating to your knowledge of the
following:
• Knowledge of principles of group dynamics and the nature of group learning.
• Knowledge of factors that affect behaviour in groups.
• Knowledge of group roles, leadership and facilitator techniques.
• Knowledge of organisation policy and procedures in relation to:
o Record keeping
o Other specific organisation policies or procedures; including supervisory and reporting
protocols
• Knowledge of legal and ethical considerations relevant to allied health.

this unit.
Prepare a response to each of the issues presented below. Your responses must reflect your
knowledge, skills, and application for this unit. Please ensure you access the relevant codes of
practice, legislation and workplace policies and procedures in relation to your field of Allied Health.

,SCENARIO 1
Total Allied Health is a busy multi-disciplinary Allied Health clinic located within the South
East Queensland. It employs ten Allied Health Professionals. You are employed as the
Allied Health Assistant supporting the AHP’s.
After recently conducting a customer survey, the results indicate high levels of interest
from clients to attend group sessions. The owner of the clinic has asked for you to
conduct preliminary research into group sessions and the information will be used to
assist in deciding whether to proceed with holding group sessions or not.
The owner has requested information on the following:

1.1. Group Dynamics - identify and describe eight (8) principles of group dynamics.
The followings of Group dynamics principles will assist the holding group sessions to
adapt/handle the high levels of interest from clients who are attending to group sessions.
1. Universality
a. Universality helps group members realise that they are not alone in their impulses,
problems and other issues.
b. Being a part of a group who have the same goals and motivations assists individuals
what they are going through is universal and they are not alone.
c. Develops the sense of satisfaction and assurance that “we are all together in this” and “
we will get through this together”.
2. Imparting information
a. Group members can assist each other with sharing information, experiences and facts.
b. What worked for them and what did not work can be helpful hints for group members
to do or not to do
c. Imparting information helps to educate and empower people with knowledge
pertaining to their specific psychological situation
3. Altruism
a. It is the quality of group members to have an unselfish concern for the welfare of
others

c. Group members can help in boosting the self-esteem and confidence of others in the
group
d. Altruism allows clients to gain a sense of value and significance by helping other group

4. The corrective recapitulation of the primary family group
