Centor Criteria. This includes fever over 38 degrees celsius or 100.4 degrees
fahrenheit, pharyngotonsillar exudate, lack of a cough, and tender anterior cervical
adenopathy.
Also, beefy red tonsils, sore throat, difficulty swallowing, elevated white count with left
shift, and usually no URI symptoms. Patients with strep often have no cough or runny
nose. They may have nausea, vomiting, headache, or a scarlitiniform rash beginning on
upper chest and flexural creases like the elbow and knees.
Strep Pharyngitis/Tonsillitis Diagnostic Tests
Rapid Strep, and send Throat Culture to confirm. If 1 of 4 criteria present, do not culture.
If 2 or 3 criteria present, culture. If 4 of 4 criteria present, do not culture and treat with
antibiotics.
