,Definition
• Anatomy is the Study of the structure of the body of organisms
• Human anatomy deals specifically with the study of the structure of the huma
body as revealed by dissection.
• The Root comes from the Greek word ‘anatome’ ana, meaning “apart," a
tome, meaning "a cutting" hence “to cut open”, ‘cutting up’ or ‘take apa
• First used by Aristotle (384-322 BC)
• A Latin word ‘dissecare’ has similar meaning.
• The term" dissection" (dis-, meaning" asunder, " and secare, meaning "to
cut") USING CADAVERS
• Closely related to Physiology- the study of the function of the structures
the body
