1. Define anatomy
2. Appreciate the need to learn and apply the knowledge of anatom
3. Describe some anatomical planes of reference and nomenclatur
4. Explain some anatomical terminologies
5. Explain quadrants and regions as applied to the human body
,Definition
• Anatomy is the Study of the structure of the body of organisms
• Human anatomy deals specifically with the study of the structure of the huma
body as revealed by dissection.
• The Root comes from the Greek word ‘anatome’ ana, meaning “apart," a
tome, meaning "a cutting" hence “to cut open”, ‘cutting up’ or ‘take apa
• First used by Aristotle (384-322 BC)
• A Latin word ‘dissecare’ has similar meaning.
• The term" dissection" (dis-, meaning" asunder, " and secare, meaning "to
cut") USING CADAVERS
• Closely related to Physiology- the study of the function of the structures
the body
