9.0 Introduction
Fashion leads, fashion follows and fashion moves. We have seen how fashion is
affected by a myriad of factors and how, in turn, fashion affects everything and
everyone it touches. The study of fashion involves elements of psychology,
sociology, art, history, and religion. We are influenced by fashion from the time we
get up in the morning until we go to the bed at night. Fashion affects the clothing and
accessories we wear, the environment in our homes and offices, the cars we drive, the
food we eat, and the entertainment we enjoy. Fashion is everywhere and it is
unavoidable.
Men, women, and children all feel the effect of fashion in the clothes they wear as
well as in other aspects of their appearance. Fashion extends even to the family pet,
which may wear a fashionable collar or sweater and eat from an appropriately
decorated bowl.
