-Used to indicate that an action was completed before some other action in the past
-Needs imperfect tense of haben/sein and a past participle at the end
Ich hatte es geholt – I had fetched it
Wir waren nach München gereist – we had travelled to Munich
Subjunctive Tense – 2 Types
Konjunktiv I Konjunktiv II
-This tense is used to indicate that the words being -This is used when creating hypothetical situations OR
said may not be true (indirect/reported speech) expressing doubt over an idea
-Verbs in Konjunktiv I must be conjugated differently: -Verbs in Konjunktiv II form are conjugated differently
depending if they are regular or irregular verbs

-The Konjunktiv II tense is basically the conditional tense, used to create hypothetical
situations
-Need to know the „konjunktiv II” form of modal verbs (see Modal Verbs), sein, haben and
werden as these are most commonly used to form the conditional tense

ich wäre ich würde ich hätte

Wenn ich viel Geld hätte… – If I had a lot of money…
-Every other verb has a konjunktive II form, but you don’t need to know them as long as
you know the konjunktiv II form of “werden” (which will be used as the auxiliary verb)
-The infinitive comes at the end of the sentence after using the konjunktiv II form of
werden
Ich würde liebe hier essen - I would rather eat here
