Atelectasis
partial or complete collapse of lobe of lung or entire lung. Caused by increased mucous,
post op anaesthetic, foreign body.
Atelectasis pathophysiology
reduced ventilation → obstruction of airflow in alveoli → trapped air is absorbed by
bloodstream → air prevented from entering alveoli → lungs become airless and
collapse
Atelectasis signs and symptoms
coughing, SOB, central cyanosis, wheezing, WOB, decrease SpO2, increased CO2,
RR, HR
Deep vein thrombosis
blood clot forming in deep veins. Caused by cancer, lack of movement, surgery and
inflammation.
Deep vein thrombosis pathophysiology
poor blood flow → blood pools in peripheries and back up clotting cascade begins →
platelets and fibrin form initial clot → decreased O2 , increased haemltocrit

lower leg swelling, tenderness, pain, redness, warmth, fever, oedema
