Class notes English grammar
Active and Passive Voice Active and passive voice are two ways to express actions in English. In active voice, the subject performs the action (e.g., She writes a letter). In passive voice, the object becomes the subject, and the doer may be omitted (e.g., A letter is written by her). Key Rules: Active: Subject + Verb + Object (He ate an apple.) Passive: Object + Helping Verb + Past Participle + (by Subject) (An apple was eaten by him.) Passive voice is often used in formal writing, scientific reports, and when the action is more important than the doer.
