universe
is vast in
size and
very old.
, THE BIG BANG
• The Big Bang – the theory that states the universe
began in a very hot, dense state that expanded and
eventually condensed into galaxies about 13.7 billion
years ago.
• This theory is our best current model for the origin of the
universe
• Evidence:
• Cosmic background radiation (radiation in space left over
from the big bang)
• Red shifts (shows galaxies are moving away, therefore
expanding)
